PROVIDENT BANK CONTINUES TO GROW IN RICHMOND, OFFICIAL CELEBRATION & OPENING SET FOR NEW HULL & COURTHOUSE LOCATION

Baltimore, September 28, 2005 — Provident Bank will open its ninth branch in the Richmond area on Tuesday, October 18th. The full service branch office is located at 10101 Hull St. RD in Richmond, VA 23236.

The Hull & Courthouse location, which will be managed by Alicia Howard, will be the Bank’s southern most office in its network of 152 branches and its first south of the James River. The opening marks Provident’s focus on building its regional presence and visibility in Richmond. This follows Provident’s continued growth and expansion in the Central Virginia market after last year’s successful acquisition of the former Southern Financial Bank.

"We are extremely excited about officially opening Hull Street," said Branch Manager Alicia Howard. "Provident Bank has a rich history of community interest and involvement, and I'm excited about the opportunity and energy it will bring here to the South Side," she added.

Howard also emphasized that staffers have had many requests from current customers and potential customers looking for services offered by big banks, while still maintaining that personal touch. She promises that Provident will deliver by "being able to do that and so much more."

District Manager Darlene Stone has confidence in Howard’s ability to grow their newest office. "I am truly delighted to have Alicia as the Manager of the Hull & Courthouse Branch. She brings more than 11 years of experience and success from the Branch level to the Operation side of banking. With her knowledge, management style, and commitment to customer service, we will be able to bring Provident Bank's pledge of being the ‘right size bank’ to the South Side."

Stone, Howard and their respective staff will co-host the branch’s official Grand Opening Celebration and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with the Chesterfield County Chamber of Commerce on Friday, November 4th. Festivities will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a "Meet and Greet BBQ". Customers and area residents are invited to join in the celebration.

The Hull & Courthouse branch hours of operation areMonday through Thursday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. – Noon. The branch phone number is 804.276.1040.
