PROVIDENT BANK HONORS CHERYL YUILLE AS VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

Baltimore, November 15, 2004 — At the 2004 Employee Meeting held on Tuesday, November 9, Cheryl Yuille, Underwriter within Provident’s Small Business Center, was named Provident Bank’s Volunteer of the Year and presented with the Peter M. Martin Community Involvement Award. The prestigious award, which was created and named after the Bank’s former Chairman and CEO Peter Martin, honors Cheryl’s outstanding commitment, dedication, and service to the community.

Cheryl was voted Volunteer of the Year largely based on her work with the Urban Financial Services Coalition (UFSC), a non-profit organization dedicated to the professional development of minorities in the financial services industry, and her Board service with Women Entrepreneurs of Baltimore (WEB), a non-profit organization that provides entrepreneurial training, technical assistance, and follow-up services for micro business start-up and development in the Baltimore metropolitan area.

Cheryl is the current President of UFSC and is on WEB’s Loan Fund, Strategic Planning and Nominations Committee for 2004. In addition, she mentors a student through the Academy of Finance, has participated in Provident’s Sandtown Building Week and teaches financial literacy to middle school-aged youth through the Operation HOPE program. She will be honored by that organization as Co-recruiter of the Year on November 18.

As Volunteer of the Year, Cheryl was also awarded a check for $500 payable to WEB, which she presented to Executive Director Anne Rouse at the Annual Meeting. Her manager, Sterling Shuman, was also on hand to congratulate her.

"Cheryl has dedicated a tremendous amount of time and effort toward serving the community," said Shuman, one of three employees that nominated Cheryl for the award. "It is a strong reflection of her leadership and commitment to the community and to helping others succeed."

When asked about her reaction to winning the award, Cheryl says that she was "surprised and honored to be selected." She was also quite excited that the monetary award would go to such a noteworthy organization as WEB. In addition to her service to WEB and UFSC, Cheryl frequently participates in Provident-sponsored volunteer events and donates her time to the Greenspring United Methodist Church to help with financial advice and planning.

Four other finalists for the Peter M. Martin Community Involvement Award were also recognized at the Annual Meeting. Michael Schwartz, Dorothy Reed, David Miller and Tom Crawford each received Certificates of Appreciation and were presented with checks for $100 to the organizations with which they volunteer.
